- Description
At the Young Innovators & Creators, our novice coding programme begins with the innovative Apitor coding blocks, a powerful yet accessible way for children to take their very first steps into the world of programming, robotics, and engineering.
These are not simply construction pieces. Apitor combines physical building components with intelligent technology, allowing children to design and build their own robots using a wide range of interlocking parts, motors, and sensors. Once built, these creations are brought to life through coding.
Using a graphical, drag-and-drop coding interface, children learn to programme their models in an intuitive and engaging way, placing commands together to control movement, respond to sensors, and create behaviours such as obstacle avoidance, line-following, and dynamic light effects.
This approach removes the complexity of traditional text-based coding, replacing it with a visual system that builds confidence, understanding, and logical thinking from the very beginning. As children progress, they naturally develop key computational skills such as sequencing, cause and effect, and problem-solving.
What makes Apitor particularly powerful is the way it blends creativity with real-world technology. Children are not just learning to code on a screen, they are:
Designing and engineering their own robotic creations
Experimenting with motors, sensors, and movement
Testing, refining, and improving their ideas
Seeing immediate, real-world results from their code
Crucially, these coding blocks are designed as a foundation for progression. The skills and confidence developed through Apitor seamlessly prepare children for the next stage of their journey, our beginner and intermediate coding clubs.
